Group Therapy

Group Programs we offer at APSC

Social Skills Development

This program supports individuals in building confidence in communication and everyday social interactions. It focuses on developing key skills such as active listening, clear expression, and recognition of non-verbal cues.

Participants are supported in a safe, encouraging environment where they can practise these skills through group activities, role-play, and guided discussion. The aim is to help each person feel more comfortable connecting with others and communicating effectively in daily life.

Culinary Group

Facilitated by our occupational therapists, our culinary group supports participants in developing mealtime management and cooking skills in a safe, structured environment. The focus is on building independence with everyday food preparation tasks, including basic cooking skills, sequencing, organisation, and following instructions.

The group also promotes kitchen safety, sensory tolerance, and functional skill development such as fine motor coordination and problem-solving.

Anxiety and Stress Management

This program helps individuals manage stress and anxiety by developing practical skills to reduce symptoms and enhance overall wellbeing.

Participants learn evidence-based strategies, including relaxation techniques, positive thinking, and problem-solving skills, to manage daily challenges. Sessions provide a supportive environment focused on building confidence, resilience, and lasting coping skills.

Grief Support

This program offers a safe and supportive space for individuals experiencing grief and loss. It brings people together who understand similar experiences, helping clients feel less alone in what they are going through.

Through shared conversation and guidance, participants are supported in exploring their feelings, feeling validated, and developing practical coping strategies to navigate the grieving process at their own pace.

Community Access

This program supports individuals to build independence and confidence in navigating everyday community environments. It focuses on practical adaptive functioning skills such as using public transport (including buses and trains), reading maps and timetables, and safely accessing local community spaces.

The program is offered in various group formats according to our timetable and are facilitated by our Occupational Therapists. Sessions also include opportunities to apply these skills in real-world settings, such as visiting the pharmacy, shopping for groceries, and navigating shopping centres.

Please enquire with our team for current group availability and scheduling.

Home Living Skills

This program is offered in various group formats according to our timetable and is facilitated by our Occupational Therapists. Sessions focus on building practical home living skills such as personal hygiene routines, laundry, folding and organising clothes, and completing everyday household tasks.

Participants are supported to practise these skills in a structured and encouraging environment, with a focus on increasing independence and confidence in managing daily home responsibilities. Please enquire with our team for current group availability and scheduling.

Anger management

This program supports individuals in developing healthier strategies to understand, regulate, and manage anger responses. It focuses on building self-awareness around emotional triggers and learning practical strategies to respond in a calm and controlled manner.

Participants are guided through skills such as emotional regulation, relaxation techniques, problem-solving, and communication strategies to support more positive responses in challenging situations. Sessions are delivered in a supportive environment that encourages reflection, learning, and personal growth.

Sports & Movement Program

This program supports NDIS participants in building confidence, strength, coordination, and physical skills through structured, sport- and movement-based activities. Facilitated by our Physiotherapists, sessions are tailored to our participants’ abilities, encouraging safe participation, enjoyment, and engagement with peers.

We maintain small group sizes (typically up to 6 participants, depending on group needs) to ensure individual support, safety, and meaningful engagement for each participant.
